Beekeepers
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about H&L Bee Farm. But first, I want to tell you how it came to be. It is amazing how sometimes a beautiful flower will grow and bloom in the same spot where the barn burned down.
My name is Terry Hester and I have been addicted to beekeeping for about 46 years, ever since my great-grandfather started teaching me about the bees around the age of 4. I am the H part of H&L Bee Farm. My partner, Dr. William D. Lyles spent over 35 years in the dental profession. "Doc," as we all call him, is the L part of H&L Bee Farm. Dr. Lyles owns the huge Lyles Plantation where our bee farm is now located. It borders some of my property where I ran several hives and mating yards.
Lyle's Plantation
Lyles plantation (www.lylesplantation.com) is a blackberry farm, quail farm, and vast acres of hunting land for quail, deer and turkey hunting. From a beekeepers point of view, the property has plentiful amounts of gall berry, palmetto, blackberries, blueberries, all kinds of wild flowers and to top that off, the Alapaha River runs all the way along the southern border of Lyles Plantation. We are talking a 2 mile stretch of TUPELO. We are in perfect queen-rearing and package bee country, which is what I have focused on for the last several years. So, without getting into a lot of details, I was at the point of throwing my hands up with beekeeping after the losses I suffered due to UPS damaging bee shipments the last two seasons, then denying all the claims. I expressed this to Doc. one night while visiting him at his lodge. He told me that I should not give up on the bee business, that he had been doing research on the industry. Furthermore, he would be interested in putting together a bee company, if I would bring my experience and equipment. That was the beginning of H&L Bee Farm. I can honestly say, that with the backing and the infra structure we have in place, it is the best move I have made in my beekeeping career. It takes a team and dedication to build a solid business, and that is exactly what we are creating with H&L Bee Farm.
Bees and Queen Breeders
Our goal is to produce the very best queens, bees, supplies and to build our business through real customer service. We not only sell bees, we teach others how to become beekeepers and queen breeders, along with supplying the tools of the trade. More beekeepers means more bees out there to help mother nature. If we take care of the bees, then the bees will return the favor to mankind.
